Traditional fiberglass molding is a slow, manual, and labor intensive process. It is often used to make small quantities of prototype parts. Reaction Injection Molding systems are composed of components that chemically react to form plastic material in a mold. The RIM process produces parts that are more accurate and uniform, and generally have lower unit costs than fiberglass parts. However, it is possible to mold fibers into a RIM part and thus gain a strength to weight advantage. Reinforced RIM offers the advantages of fiberglass at a lower unit cost. |
